Bored Piles

In December 2015, Acciona Infrastructure Australia awarded Avopiling the contract to construct bored piers for a bridge crossing at the Eastern Distributor located at Surry Hills. The bridge is part of the Sydney Light Rail Project and requires to be undertaken during the 2015 Christmas break.

The major challenges were the live traffic running in the Eastern Distributor, restricted working areas and general site conditions of the project. Avopiling was able to deliver the project on time despite these challenges with zero incidents.

Scope of Works

The work required us to build piles on both sides of the bridge simultaneously and would require four crews working round the clock within a 5 day period.

Pile installation had to be carried out in a precise way to avoid clashing with the existing retaining wall of the Eastern Distributor.

Considering the time constraints, Avopiling proposed a unique way, which proved to be very successful in installing the casings to expedite the construction of the 4 bored piles on each abutment using 900 mm diameter permanent casings ranging from 22.00 to 25.00 meters.
